Red Stag hunt in Italy
Description
The red stag is undoubtedly one of the most impressive European trophies, and hunting it in the forests of the Italian Alps offers one of the most fascinating hunting experiences on the continent.
During the rut, red stag hunting becomes a ‘listen and stalk’ adventure. Surrounded by their impressive roar echoing in the valleys, you will stalk them in the forest in the lower parts of the mountains, simply following their rut. Most of the time they will appear unexpectedly close, leaving hunters only a few seconds to take the shot.
Red stags can also be hunted above the tree line with breathtaking views of the peaks of the Alps, allowing hunters to spot the animals in the distance and engage in exciting stalks. The eerie stance of the stag may require very quick shots in the forest or very long shots across valleys.
A typical day begins before sunrise, when the hunters, still in the dark, follow the rutting stags between the mountains, often over difficult terrain. Depending on how the hunt goes, the hunters will usually return to the hotel for a short break and lunch before heading out again for the evening hunt a few hours before dark.
